On Friday, 29th of July BESIX Watpac hosted a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony to bless the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge project site and Brisbane Connect team.

The Welcome to Country was led by Turrbal Songwoman and Law-woman, Maroochy Barambah and the Smoking Ceremony performed by Turrbal Elder Aunty Kath.

It was a unique and moving experience to hear the Turrbal story and understand the cultural significance of this project. All site workers, subcontractors, members of our Indigenous Steering Committee and our clients, Brisbane City Council, were invited to participate in this culturally significant event.

The timing of the event also coincided with a site visit from our leadership group including special guest BESIX Deputy CEO Pierre Sironval, Executive Chairman Jean-Pol Bouharmount and BESIX Watpac Board Members Julieanne Alroe and Andrew Fraser.

Acknowledging and celebrating the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, is part of the BESIX Watpac commitment to reconciliation and is embedded in our National Cultural Awareness Training Policy.
